Lois Hunt Receives First Green Leadership Award

Lois Hunt receives the Green Leadership Award

Lois A. Hunt, Ottumwa resident and long-time Area Extension Education Director, received the first Green Leadership Award from the City of Fairfield on Monday, February 15th.

Lois was given the award to honor her vision and commitment to the development and execution of the Fairfield Go Green Strategic Plan. She not only dedicated countless hours to the visioning process of the plan, but was instrumental in pioneering the partnership with Iowa State University Extension and the City of Fairfield that made the hiring of the full time Sustainability Coordinator possible. This relationship with Extension brings an invaluable host of resources, relationships and research to the table, but is also a pilot position that connects Extension expertise with local governments as one piece of the overall sustainability initiative at Iowa State University.

Lois has served Extension since 1985 in various capacities, and was also recently nominated for an ISU Award for her involvement with a multi-state professional development event on sustainability. She recently retired from her post, but continues to stay active in the sustainability efforts of the City and ISU.

The Fairfield Green Leadership Award is a co-sponsored award presented by the City’s Green Commission and ISU Extension Jefferson County bi-annually, and nominations are currently being accepted for our next round of recipients. For more information please contact Scott Timm at stimm@iastate.edu.
